Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf

This is a tutorial on how to make a cute illustration of little red riding hood and the scary wolf walking down the paths in a forest. The tutorial was made easy to follow along, and to enjoy the beauty of drawing. Made in Corel Painter 4.

Now colors were added.
The background of the woods were sketched in.
The blue lines were changed into black lines.
The trees and sky was colored.
Then the ground was colored in.
Step 6. Color

Once you feel well with the lines, we can move on to color. Color is very impacting in art. Colors can bring out many emotions in an onlooker and should be taking note what colors give what emotions and what you want others to feel when they look apon your art. For the wolf I gave him a dark gray base color. For red riding hood I based the colors around her red hood. I gave her warm colors to give her a kind and sweet look. I also added a temporary background to help me color them in without white spots.

Step 7. Background Sketch

Next, At this point I decided to get a good idea on how I wanted the background to look. I knew I wanted a forest with tall, dark trees and a curving path. After studying photos of some of the trees from the black forest in Germany, I decided to draw these kind of simple trees.

Step 8. Background Lines

Now that I made up my mind, I drew in the background with soild black lines. I added a few more trees and branches to the drawing. I did not spend nearly as much time on the line work of the background as I did with the wolf and little red riding hood. It does not matter much, because the background colors will be dark and will hide the rough edges.

Step 9. Background Color Test

After I colored in the trees, I made the quick decision to test the colors with the trees and background. I wanted the forest to look dark, while still keeping the daytime look. Once I messed with a few more colors, I moved on to coloring it again.

Step 10. Background Colors

I finished up coloring the trees and grass with care. I made sure the colors would not be to bright so it would not take away from our lovely subjects. Then I went back to the sky and lighten it up a bit. I also decided I wanted my light source from the top left and a little behind our wolf and little girl. Now on to the shading!
